Frequently Asked Questions
In the Pisco valley, in the Humay district, about 45 km inland from the coast on the Los Libertadores highway. From Paracas the drive is around an hour. It's the best-preserved Inca site on the entire Peruvian coast.
It's an Inca administrative center from the Tawantinsuyu, also known as Pucallacta. Its value is in how well it survived: because this is a rainless zone, adobe walls are still standing with traces of the original red, yellow and white paint — something that almost never survives at other Inca sites.
US$ 90 per person with a minimum of two passengers, departing from Paracas. It includes transport with pickup, a Spanish-speaking guide and personal attention. Site entry fees and tourist taxes aren't included, and neither is food.
The full tour from Paracas takes 5 hoours, including the drive each way. Inside the site you cover the main complex and the site museum with a guide. It's an easy walk on flat ground.
Yes, by public transport toward Humay or by taxi from Pisco. But there's no permanent guide service on site and very little interpretive signage. Without a guide, the walls are just walls — the visit gains a lot from someone explaining what each enclosure was for.
Sunscreen and a hat are essential: the site has no shade and the Pisco valley gets hot. Also sunglasses, a windbreaker for the drive, plenty of water, closed shoes, a camera, and binoculars if you want to pick out detail in the walls.
Yes. It's an easy visit on flat ground with no demanding stairs. The only real consideration is the midday heat — with small children or older relatives, take a morning slot.
Yes. Our Pisco full day adds Tambo Colorado, Cerro Viruela, the Laguna Morón oasis and sunset on the Pisco Playa waterfront. If you have a full day, it's a much better use of the drive out to the valley.
