Frequently Asked Questions
It is with the right operator, and it's a fair question to ask — there have been accidents in Huacachina and they're easy to find online. Our UTVs are current-generation vehicles with a roll cage, four-point harnesses and documented maintenance, and they're driven by a certified off-road driver, not by you. The incidents that get reported involve old vehicles with no maintenance record and uncertified drivers. Ask any operator — us included — to show you the driver's certification and the vehicle's service record before you get in. If they can't, walk away.
US$ 150 per UTV, seating up to three people. The price is per vehicle, not per person, so a group of three pays about US$ 50 each. The Huacachina entrance tax is separate: S/ 8.10 per person.
The dune buggy is the big 8 to 10-seat vehicle that runs the classic group circuit. A UTV is a compact three-seat 4x4 — more agile, closer to the ground, with a driver dedicated to your group alone. The sense of speed is considerably higher in the UTV.
A certified off-road driver takes the wheel. In the Huacachina dunes, reading the sand is what prevents a rollover, and that takes years to learn. You ride as a passenger, harnessed in, free to actually look around.
Yes, sandboarding is included as an optional activity with basic instruction. The route has two stops: one for sandboarding and photos, and one at the panoramic viewpoint over the Huacachina oasis.
Message us before booking if you're travelling with young children or older relatives. The route has jumps and steep descents. If you have back or neck problems, are pregnant, or have any heart condition, this tour isn't for you — take the classic dune buggy circuit instead.
Sunglasses, without question — there's fine sand in the air the whole time. Plus sunscreen, a hat or bandana, a windbreaker, water, closed shoes and a camera. Skip contact lenses: Huacachina's sand is fine enough to make them miserable.
Yes, they're about two hours apart. The usual order is Paracas in the morning — Ballestas Islands and the National Reserve — then Huacachina in the afternoon to finish on the dunes at sunset. Message us and we'll arrange the transfer and the timings.
